The green-eyed monster

Out in the open fields I suddenly encountered it. A creature towering above me, with scaly skin and flaming eyes. Its eyes seemed to speak in a language undeciphered: You don’t belong in this place. One whip of its tail and it struck me. I could either fight or admit my defeat.

But you never saw it nor did it matter. The warrior I had become through years of ongoing battle. I learned to fight my way through this foreign land.

I was laying there bleeding, the wounds stinging, unable to rise up and charge it once more. I never chose it but the outcome laid bare in front of me in the grass. It read: better make your way back while you still can.
